DEVELOPING SKILLS FOR INDUSTRY
Australia’s vast brown coal resources totals about a quarter of all known reserves. Low-emissions technologies for both electricity generation and value-added products derived from brown coal, can greatly limit damaging climate change and safeguard the nation's future economic prosperity.
Innovation of low-emissions technology for brown coal usage requires major investment over a long period of time and can take up to 20 years from research concept to market development. BCIA's strategic management of investment in R&D ensures innovation support and operational activities continue for brown coal low-emissions.
In association with industry and our tertiary education partners, BCIA is focused strongly on skills-development for the brown coal industry through the expansion of training opportunities. Availability and accessibility of human resource expertise is of critical concern for current and future coal-based industries. BCIA aims to secure the scientific, engineering and trades expertise needed to develop low-emissions brown coal technologies. BCIA is supporting future scientists and engineers by fostering Australia's research leadership in brown coal by collaborating between researchers and industry.
